Avilanian Orthopedic Center Increases Surgical Services

With the purpose to increase the surgical services and foster minimum access operations, a modern orthopedic center have been incepted at the at the Doctor Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Teaching Hospital in Ciego de Ávila.

The new facility, which is the result of the effort made by the orthopedics staff and the innovators of the hospital, has three surgical rooms, one recovery ward and another one for pre-anesthesia, as well as a sterilization center, an infirmary and a waiting room. 

With the smallest possible cost these professionals retrieved the usefulness of several operating tables and other equipments that allowed the march of this project that favors the residents of this central territory and the nearby provinces.

Doctor Antonio Raunel Hernández Rodríguez, the head of Orthopedics and Traumatology, reported that they have the advanced technology required to conduct arthroscopic surgery, which favors the safety of patients since it reduces the operation time and avoids risks, while diminishing bleeding and other adverse reactions. Besides, it allows quick recovery.

So far this surgical method has been used in shoulders and knees, new techniques have been introduced for ankle dysfunctions and there is a project for wrist, elbows and hip injuries.
